Bishop Dominic Kimengich
Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich is from Nakuru Diocese. He was born on April 23rd 1961 in Kituro, Baringo County in the family of Luka Kimengich Kipkosiome and Kabon Kimengich, both deceased. He attended Marigat Primary School from 1967 to 1974 and later went to Kituro High School from 1975 to 1979.
He was ordained Deacon in 1985 and Priest in 1986 before pursuing his Licentiate and Doctorate in Canon Law at Pontifical Holy Cross University in Rome.
On 20th March 2010 Pope Benedict XV1 appointed Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich the new auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar. On 22nd May 2010, the Bishop elect Kimengich was Ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Lodwar at St. Augustine’s Cathedral and installed as Bishop of the same Diocese on 30th March 2011, upon the retirement of Bishop Patrick Harington. Bishop Kimengich also was a Titular Bishop of Tanamarusa in Algeria, while he served as an Auxillary Bishop for Lodwar.
Bishop Kimengich was appointed the bishop elect of Eldoret Diocese – the news that was officially made public in Rome on Saturday, 16th November, 2019 at noon.
These news were received positively by the Eldoret Diocese faithfuls over the three countries: Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet. Coincidentally, the announcement was made the very hour that Bishop Kimengich was in Eldoret Diocese, St. Francis Cheptarit Parish (Rongit) Celebrating Mass for sister Pauline Chelagat who was celebrating 25 years in sisterhood.
The letter of his appointment was sent to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, His Excellency Archbishop Bert Van Megen.
The appointed Bishop Dominic Kimengich was on Saturday 1st, February, 2020 installed as the new Bishop of Eldoret in a colourful ceremony held at the Mother of Apostles Seminary in Eldoret. The installation rite was presided over by Nairobi Archbishop, His Eminence John Cardinal Njue.
Other than composing music and singing, Bishop Kimengich has a fond touch for Education, he is a keen listener, a prayerful person and is highly celebrated for his administrative skills. His installation marks a new chapter for Eldoret Diocese; an era that invites all of us to indeed “Serve the Lord with gladness.”
