Introduction:

The Vocation Office of the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret thanks you for your continued assistance towards the formation of our Seminarians.

Our seminarians have been undergoing their priestly formation in the following major seminaries:-

  1. St. Mary's Major seminary - Molo
  2. St. Mathias Mulumba Seminary - Tindinyo
  3. St. Augustine Major Seminary - Mabanga
  4. St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary - Nairobi
  5. Christ the King Major Seminary - Nyeri

These seminarians are taught Courses which prepare them to serve as Priests. These courses include Philosophy and Theology.

In Kenya, the training begins with one year course in Spirituality, three years course in Philosophy and four years course in Theology.

In the course of formation, the seminarians engage in spiritual, pastoral, academic and social activities.

Pastoral Activities

All the seminarians close in May for three months every year for long holidays and one month in December. During these holidays, seminarians are assigned pastoral duties in the Parishes. These pastoral duties include : -

  • Visiting Christians in their Small Christian Communities
  • Facilitating Small Christian Community prayers Visiting the sick
  • Teaching Christian Catholic Doctrines
  • Working With Catholic lay movements such as Legion of Mary
  • Youth Apostolate
  • Pastoral Guidance and Counseling
  • Mass
  • Conducting Sunday services
  • Teaching pastoral programmes in schools Catechism

The seminarians' pastoral assignments in Parishes also involve living in Christian families so as to be in touch with the challenges facing the Christians.

These are the minimum requirements needed for one to become a priest in Catholic Diocese of Eldoret: 

  • Must be a baptised and confirmed Catholic male;
  • Must be of good morals; 
  • Must be of good health; 
  • Must have a desire to be a Priest; 
  • Must have attained KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus) and above.
